In gung-ho style, we were driving as close to the belching exhaust of a large old bus as was physically possible.

‘Watch out!’

‘My bike is jumping!’

‘Yes I know it is jumping. I can feel it. I’m barely clinging on back here!’

‘Really jumping now. Please hold on.’

‘I’m trying to hold on!’

‘Hold on!’

‘Try avoiding the potholes and we might do less jumping.’

‘What?’

‘I said try avoiding the…’
